foxy's cookies

This morning, Foxy was talking cookies again. It seems that little Larry is upset; they have an issue with the cookies. You see, Foxy, she don't eat no cookies. Little Larry is all about eating them cookies, but he ain't getting no reciprocation. Can't she help a brotha out?

night rider

Riding in the dark, in Ridley Creek , on a Monday night, with a headlight rigged to your bike, getting stopped by the park police for trespassing; not a good idea.
Watching a movie; much better idea.

raw dawg

So, I have had this can of Raw Dawg energy drink sitting on the shelf in my bedroom since 2003. For reasons unknown to me, this morning as I was getting ready for work, I decided that today was the day I would drink it. Why you ask, have I possesed such can for 5 years? My friend drove across country that summer and brought it back from Cali for me. We thought that the "horny goat weed enhanced" formula was so ridiculous, I decided to save it. Well, that and the fact I think energy drinks are gross.

I drank half of it on the train in the morning. It got me freakin' juiced. Uncomfortably so. Complete with heart palpitations. And I drank the second half after lunch in my office. Now the Raw Dawg's life cycle is complete.

What you put out in the universe is what you get back from it; me and the universe, we are like this...

print art show at danger danger

Friday night 9/19 - art show at Danger Danger gallery. I carved a pumpkin of the crimson ghost for the Misfits cover band Danzig Brick that played the show, along with Padre Pio. It was super badass.
I do what I want.

the ring

In the continuing saga of "foxy", today I heard about her ring. It is a fake engagement ring she wears "so men stay out my face" when she wants to look taken. Little Larry came to pick her up for lunch today, and apparently threw a big fit when he saw her ring; he accused her of being married, and not telling him. Like not telling him was the worst part of that situation. My understanding is that she basically laughed at him and said "so what, I want to wear my jewelry today, what is you trippin', I ain't married...now you talkin' junk", got a free lunch, and was out the do'. Oh, and her phone also rang about 75 times since she left, at 2:00, when we aren't done until 5.

padre pio

Dope fresh time last night 9/16 at Danger Danger Gallery in West Phil. I love to see people doing their thing. It is absolutely beautiful.

am running

3 miles in the Me-dia loop today before work. I hope to make enough time someday for 5.
I think I may be addicted to the sense I get from running that comes after losing the jarring abrasiveness that a run always starts with. When it isn't uncomfortable anymore and the effort I am making is almost minimal, I get to where I feel like I can go on forever. I am one with my body and it is serving me in its highest capacity. I don't feel that way every time I run, sometimes it hurts and I get a cramp and hate it; but when I can get there, it is perfection.
Biking could quite possibly turn this way for me as well.

the start of foxy tales

So I am going to start posting about all the ridiculousness I hear from my co-worker, who I am going to call "foxy". Right now, she has 2 men, both named Larry. She talks about them all day long, among other things, and it is actually pretty enjoyable. Today she tells me that was with Big Larry last night, and she "gave him half the cookie, snatched up the rest and told him he can't have no more". Cookie is a euphemism for what I am sure you can guess. Big Larry is in the doghouse because she thinks he's living with another woman that she doesn't know about, and she wants to call Joey Greco from Cheaters on his ass. I told her she should do it.

grrrrr

I forgot my camera today and I am kinda pissed about it. At least I have my phone...

Last night 9/13 I partied in Ridley, at Tom and Jerry's bar, because my friend Josh's band was playing there. Let me just say that it was an experience. The place is a sports bar, so the female bartenders all wore these striped referee cropped "shirts" (if you could even call them shirts) which was reminiscent of some crusty Hooter's somewhere. Being in this bar was like being transported to rural Texas, but in reality you are only a few miles outside Philly. At least the drinks were cheap, and I had the pleasure of free whiskey shots bought by some guy that looked like a cross between Wayne Newton and Glenn Danzig circa Mother '93. I really wanted to take a picture, but I didn't want to give him any ideas. All in all it was a very interesting night.

bike ride

Rode 34.6 miles yesterday 9/13 from Conshy to Lower Perkiomen Valley Park to Manayunk back to Conshy.
The universe is opening itself up for me.

i want these

I haven't even been thinking about shoes, nor do I need any, but today I happened to come across these which I know I could totally rock for fall with dresses and tights or slim jeans. I like the black, but they also come in wine and dark brown. They are Clarks Adore Groove, you can find them here.

nothing better than some OJ the morning after

I went to bed a little drunk last night and woke up extremely thirsty after dreaming about drinking orange juice. I have somewhat of a love/ hate relationship with the Dude Ranch kegerator. It sounds like a great idea on a Wednesday night, but not so much on Thursday morning.

about time clock

This is a pretty rad idea, it's a clock that rolls around on your desk. It tells time in one long sentence, letting you know "it's about 6", or "almost 7". Designed with our stressed out lives in mind, it reminds us that each minute doesn't need to be accounted for.

schuylkill in the house, 9/10/08

The first person salon at the Gershman Y will host, among other things, the screening of a movie entitled "Hooked: Philly's Urban Anglers" which contains interviews with two of my very good friends. For more info on fishing in Philadelphia, visit Louis or Philadelphia Angler's Club.

power and intention

This is a concept that I have been thinking about a lot lately. It is very easy to become caught up in what we feel we want and obtaining those goals we set for ourselves in which we will make us happy. In our society, intention is usually thought of as a drive within us that combines tenacity and hard work and ultimately leads to success. In this way intention can be construed as power. People feel they need power to get what they want, so logically, it stands to reason that if you set your intention strongly and powerfully enough, you'll get what you want.

Not so fast. If those intentions are not pure you won't gain the power you so strongly desire. So what is meant by pure intentions? Intention is not about a single minded focus on wanting to succeed or win at all costs. It's not about choosing something because you think it is a good idea, or because someone else is doing it. Striving for a goal that you want for the wrong reasons is not a pure intention. Pure intentions are unselfish and rooted in love; you should really love whatever it is that you set out to do in order to make it work. Purity of intention is beautiful; when you can come to see the beauty that is all around you, even in the worst circumstances, it sets about an expansion of mind to all the possibilities that are there for you. These possibilities are infinite; there absolutely are no limitations to what you can have. When intention is right, things will begin to work out because you are open to giving and not only receiving.

I think a good place to start is to seek out those things in our lives that we love to do, not for what we think they do for us, or how they make us appear in the eyes of others; but things we do with mindfulness that in turn impart harmony with the moment we are in.

Runningis one of the things that does it for me.

a great idea

I just found out about this place from a friend of mine, and I am really down with the idea. It is perfect for someone who wants to either get into sewing, or already sews but doesn't have a machine of their own. You basically rent time by the hour to use the machines; they also sell fabric and run classes as well. I hear some of the equipment they have there even lures the seasoned crafter, so I will certainly be checking it out. They are located at 1912 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 215.545.0755

bike ride

Biked 20 miles in Chadds Ford, near the Brandywine creek. Feeling pretty great about it because I initially thought I wouldn't be able to do more than 15 miles; as I am new to riding bikes. I feel like I could have definitely done more. This reiterates to me the fact that I always do better in my endeavors than I initially think I will.

Figuring out what I want to do about getting a new, lighter road bike. The single speed schwinn city bike just isn't going to cut it for this type of riding. I love it too much for what it is to change it; so I have decided to keep it and either build or buy another one. Thanks to a new friend I have something to ride in the meantime while I think on that.

the creature

I am on the hunt for a big green caterpillar I found in my garden. I think it is a Great Ash Sphinx caterpillar, or Sphinx chersis.

I have only seen it once and mistakenly left it in the garden, thinking maybe it would eat some of the aphids and mites that have been plaguing the eggplant. Upon further research, I learned that these types of caterpillars are otherwise known as "tomato hornworms"; they eat your precious fruits and vegetables! I went back to get him and any of his buddies, but they were nowhere to be found . I know they are in there somewhere, as the holes in my cantaloupes and the missing peppers tell me so. Interestingly enough, they haven't eaten any tomatoes.
